FOR
IMMEDIATE RELEASE
September 13, 2000 New York City:
Escapemaker.com
announces the launch of a unique local getaway guide focusing
on travel destinations within 500 miles of New York City that
are accessible both by car and public transportation.
Escapemaker
is making its debut by blanketing the city with a butterfly-outfitted
troupe passing out butterfly magnets and encouraging Manhattanites
to "make their escape through the net."
The
locations to be covered will be blitzed from 12:00 pm 2:00 pm
according to the following schedule:
Wall Street and World Trade Center: Wednesday 9/13, Radio City/Rockefeller
Plaza Area: Thursday Sept. 9/14, Bryant Park: Friday 9/15, Union
Square: Wednesday 9/20, Columbus Circle: Thursday 9/21.
Any
changes due to inclement weather will be announced on the website.
Escapemaker.com
is not a travel agency but rather, a free detailed local travel
information guide for New Yorkers wishing to take a vacation from
the city.
The
web site offers up-to-date information on local getaways, provides
travel alerts on last-minute specials, and suggests trips matching
traveler's specified interests. Custom itineraries can be planned
and printed along with weather information, pricing, contact numbers
and directions.
Initially,
Escapemaker will launch with 25 travel destinations and will add
new locales every month. Recognizing that travelers often encounter
logistical difficulties, the Escapemaker staff personally visits
each featured destination and provides valuable tips to vacationers
traveling with or without a car.
Caylin
Sanders, Escapemaker's President, comments, "I have discovered
many little known gems throughout my travels. For instance, who
would guess that you could take a romantic cruise to a deserted
island in Connecticut? Did you know that within a couple of hours
from Manhattan, you can kayak with the dolphins at sunset or that
you can become a dwarf for a day at a giant sculpture garden?"
The
site is sensitive to the needs of travelers using public transportation,
listing timesaving travel tips and links to transit schedules.
By making these trips personally, the staff learns and recommends
ways to avoid lengthy layovers and travel snafus.
"When
I arrive by bus, train or car, I approach the town as if I have
never been there before," continues Caylin, "How far is my lodging
for the night and how do I get there? What is there to do here
and where should I eat? Where can I get toothpaste, cigarettes,
a disposable camera, contact lens solution or an ice-cream cone?
These are questions I ask the locals and provide the answers to
on Escapemaker.com."
Ann
Ivan, Escapemaker's VP of Advertising, remarks, "We find fantastic
deals that you can't get anywhere else and update them on a regular
basis. It's a tremendous timesaving service for New Yorker's who
like to get away and enjoy all the unique experiences that the
surrounding areas have to offer."
