Hudson, NY Bring your foldable bike, your binoculars, and your sweetie! Sweeping Hudson River views attracted people to Columbia County for centuries. Frederic Church, the famed Hudson River School painter, may have found the best vista for his impressive historic home, Olana. The River provided endless inspiration for his fellow artists, as well as writers. The city of Hudson is completely walkable – all your shopping, dining and lodging needs – including the 1720 Merchant House(left) are within a few blocks of the Hudson Amtrak station!More here or book Amtrak!
Woodstock, NY Forget the festival, forget the bird, the town of Woodstock in Ulster County, is the hippest of them all! For some reason we expected to see flower children roaming the streets. Of course the Jerry Garcia, Yoko Ono, and John Lennon look-alikes dot the landscape, but we also noticed people from every walk of life browsing the shops and galleries. Groovy, man! Rent a car from the Poughkeepsie Amtrak station and Woodstock and the Inn on the Millstream (left) is only a 35 minute drive! More here or book Amtrak
Rhinebeck, NY The Beekman Arms Inn is not just for the Clintons! From farmer’s markets to restaurants, Dutchess County and Rhinebeck are all about food and history! Did you know that Rhinebeck has 437 sites listed on the National Historic Register? The town’s past has been well-preserved — even in the little details like hitching posts and decorative cornices scattered throughout the village. Immediately immerse yourself in local lore and take a walking tour of Rhinebeck — just a quick taxi ride from the Rhinecliff Amtrak station.
