Dear EscapeMakers — Spring into the ‘Cuse! Celebrate the return of the sun with outdoorsy activities, a fantastic film festival and some shop hopping!
The best part of spring? Spring Break! So what if you’re not a teacher or a student. You deserve a break too! Go ahead and monkey around – visit the Rosamond Gifford Zoo; or watch an eye-opening IMAX film like BEAVERS at The MOST, which plunges into the aquatic life of one of nature’s greatest engineers. For more hands-on, scientific fun, hang out at the MOST all week – they’re open for April Break! Explore your imaginative side in the Art Zone at the Everson Museum, where curiosity and creativity are cultivated; or catch a fly ball at the opening day of the Syracuse Chiefs on April 9th. Spend that last burst of Spring Break energy by lacing up your rollerblades and skating your heart out at Onondaga Lake Park. Standing still is just not an option when it’s finally spring in the ‘Cuse.
3…2…1…And we’re rolling! Check out this year’s Syracuse International Film Festival, April 24th to May 3rd taking place at the Palace Theatre, the Bristol IMAX at the MOST, Hotel Syracuse and the Everson Museum. The fest features over 100 films from 25 countries. Delve into diverse genres, network at filmmaker parties, groove to live music, debate social issues, learn from industry insiders in filmmaking forums and see prestigious award presentations. And this is just a taste of what to expect at the festival. Clearly, the Syracuse Film Fest is “Not just an event – an experience.”
Star in your own feature film… about spring cleaning, starting with your closet! Ditch your old duds and shop it up in the ‘Cuse at Carousel Center, CNY’s treasure trove of retail stores, restaurants and entertainment, or at the unique boutiques peppered throughout Armory Square. Venture out to Fayetteville Towne Center, the Great Northern Mall or the ShoppingTown Mall for even more fashion feasting, or see what the college kids are raving about as far as the trendy shops on SU Hill. With so many places to shop, everyone needs to give in to their inner shopaholic once in a while.
Broadway shows are coming to the ‘Cuse! The Famous Artists, who present a series of five nationally touring Broadway shows, are coming to perform at the Crouse Hinds Theatre. How about an awesome, all-inclusive package to the shows?
Did you know Andre Rieu, also known as “the Waltz King”, and the Johann Straus Orchestra began in 1987 with 12 members, but now perform with between 40 and 50 musicians? The revival of waltz music they ignited began in the Netherlands. But you don’t have to travel to the Netherlands to hear his breathtaking melody – enter this contest and you just might win tickets to his upcoming performance in the ‘Cuse, on April 20th at 7pm!
