Easton

Introduction

By Joan Cutten

"Get knee-high in the Lehigh and put your derierre in the Delaware,"say Eastonians. At the confluence of the Delaware and Lehigh Rivers, at the PA-NJ border, Easton, Pennsylvania is the perfect family destination.

Although the Crayola FACTORY® continues to be the main draw here, many will be surprised to find that Easton was the scene of some major historical events! For starters, Easton hosted a number of Native American treaty councils prior to the American Revolution, and its Centre Square was actually only one of three sites where the Declaration of Independence was read to the public in 1776. And thanks to its canal waterways and mule-drawn boats, Easton became an industrial boomtown for commerce and trade in the pre-railroad eras.

Just an easy two-hour drive from New York City, Easton makes the perfect weekend getaway or daytrip for both kids and history buffs alike. From the National Canal Museum and Boat Ride to the Crayola FACTORY®, from shopping to Lafayette College and a host of outdoor activities, there's something sure to please every member of the family.
