Forget the festival, forget the bird, the town of Woodstock, is the hippest of them all! Encouraging individuality, Woodstock was a large artists' colony years before the famous 1969 same-named concert, held in a field 50 miles away.
Browse the shops and eclectic emporiums on Tinker St., visit the art galleries, tour the museum and bike around town. Scenic vistas and babbling brooks meet you around every corner. Take a dip in the Tannery Brook swimming hole or sit back and enjoy the people watching.
For some reason we expected to see flower children roaming the streets. Surprisingly, we noticed a pretty diverse crowd. Of course the Jerry Garcia, Yoko Ono, and John Lennon look-alikes dot the landscape, but we also noticed people from every walk of life browsing the shops and galleries. I guess Woodstock truly does bring all people together. Groovy, man!
