Introduction

Street in New Paltz, NYThe best way to describe New Paltz is a hip college town with a historic past - the American Revolutionary War meets "That 70’s Show."

New Paltz has maintained its small town feel despite being home to a major state college – SUNY New Paltz

Originally the French Huguenots settled this area in 1677 on what is known today as Huguenot Street. The original churches, schools, blacksmiths and stone houses dot the area and are maintained in a museum-like community. A band of faithful volunteers maintain the properties, give tours and reenact daily life of the time.

Primarily a farming community, New Paltz took its name from "Pfaltz," - a German word for the capital from where the settler’s immigrated.

Shop for antiques, bike along cornfields, tour wineries, pick your own fruit, tour the art galleries and then overdose in the tie-dye paraphernalia!
