Stepping into the lobby of the Boardwalk Plaza Hotel on your weekend getaway is like stopping for a visit in the parlor of a friend's grand old Victorian home.

To your left is an intimate sitting parlor with fireplace and rich, antique mantle dotted with Victorian era photos. To your right a friendly, animated bird beside a worn, wooded writing desk, with period phone and Tiffany lamp. And straight ahead, bellhops in tuxedo shirts, bowties and suspenders welcome you to your stay in a gentler more luxurious era.

Rehoboth's Boardwalk Plaza Hotel is no faux beach resort, but a genuine Victorian oceanfront hotel built from the ground up in 1991 by the family that has owned an inn on the property since 1958. Family grandmother, Ruth Ann Zerby, has meticulously handpicked the antiques, which appear throughout the four-story, 84-room hotel. It's the attention to detail that has made the Boardwalk Plaza the only AAA Four Diamond oceanfront hotel in the Mid-Atlantic.

The Boardwalk Plaza's guests change seasonally with summertime bringing families enjoying the beach and the hotel's indoor-outdoor pool spa. The fall attracts guests who stroll the boardwalk and appreciate Rehoboth's slower, off-season pace. Winter is dedicated to romance with couples escaping the cold for the warmth of the hotel's bygone era.

The Boardwalk Plaza Hotel sits directly on the Rehoboth boardwalk with only a sandy beach between guests and the Atlantic—it's a place to while away the evening sipping a pint to the sounds of the Atlantic or watching the big game. Eight deep, high-backed leather chairs—each with its own throw blanket—wait for you to settle in with a drink and a good book. A chess set sits at the ready and a bowtied bartender mans the antique bar.

The hotel offers 12 suite types ranging from family-friendly accommodations with two queen beds and separate sitting area with sleeper sofa, to couple-friendly suites with single, king poster beds and bedroom whirlpool bathtubs for two. Each elegantly appointed hallway is also lined with antique desks, benches and lamps.

With the many shops and restaurants of downtown Rehoboth Beach only a short stroll down the boardwalk, you'll have everything you need to enjoy a luxurious ocean front vacation.

  DINING & NIGHTLIFE

Continuing though the antique-filled lobby, you'll arrive at the hotel's main dining room. Victoria's Restaurant (left) offers outdoor oceanfront dining as well as a three-level, ocean-view dining room with candle-lit, lace-covered tables. Friendly, formally-dressed servers present your meal to sounds of Ella Fitzgerald and Billie Holiday. Next to Victoria's, you'll find the ultra-inviting Plaza Pub.

The elegant Victoria's Restaurant with its outdoor and ocean-view seating is open daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The reasonably priced menu offers a larger than expected choice of traditional American cuisine with international surprises.

The 7 am to 11 am breakfast ranges from raspberry swirl French toast to a veggie lover's omelet. Lunch is traditional with its burger, crab melt and shrimp salad style choices served from 11:30 am to 3 pm. You will not leave hungry after enjoying one of Victoria's ample and well-prepared dinner entrees. Among the dinner menu's surprises are a Mediterranean Braised Half Hen, Argentinean Barbecued Flat Iron Steak served on grilled Peruvian potatoes and Maple-Bourbon Barbecue Duckling. Or you can choose more traditional seafood fare such as Victoria's Surf and Turf, Seafood Crepe or Chesapeake Soft-Shell Crabs. Dinner is served from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. The restaurant also features a diverse 48-wine menu with a recommendation accompanying each entrée. Traditional breakfast, lunch and dinner, children's and early bird menus are also offered.

In addition, the full Victoria's Restaurant menu is available via room service along with a pizza, chicken finger and burger snack menu from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. And Monday through Saturday from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., tea aficionados enjoy a full-service, traditional afternoon tea served in the main dining room.
